Interview with Head of Coast Guard
Yemen Post Commander of Yemeni Coast Guard Forces Administration Ali Ahmed Ras’ee is a graduate of the Police Academy, and holds a degree in law, and a high diploma in economy. In his interview with the Yemen Post, Ras’ee points out that the support of coalition forces to the coastguard harmed the country more than it benefited. (He doesn’t receive the finding he needs.) Below are the details: Yemen Post: What are the tasks of the coastguard forces? Ali Ras’ee: The tasks of coastguard forces a

Scheduled post publishing 4
Round about now, if everything's gone to plan, I should be heading back onto dry land after a marvellous afternoon of messing about in boats. I wish I got some decent photographs. Hurrah for scheduled post publishing. And now for something I haven't done for the last two months - a proper fish supper! Fish may not have been banned as part of my low-fat cholesterol diet, but battered cod straight out of a spitting fryer was most definitely off limits. Especially with a side order of thick greasy

My First Peddie
Today I got my first pedicure. I don’t know if any of you every have seen my feet recently but I really needed it. There is no way I can take proper care of my size 14 boats. I think the Vietnamese ladies were laughing at my webbed toes though. Nah, they were very professional and didn’t offer me one of these afterwards.

Holland America Life Boat Drill
Holland America Life Boat Drill - stripping the boats (LOC), originally uploaded by The Library of Congress. Cruise boat season began in earnest this week in Vancouver. Today was very busy because the inexpensive early season cruises really bring the "double wide" crowd out en mass. Hee Haw fans from every over left rover chained to a tree so they could stand in buffet lines and complain that the budweiser in cans sold out in the first hours of the sailing. Five Days of Living Dangerously
Who said the secretive generals in Myanmar aren’t doing anything after the deadly cyclone? They sound pretty busy to me: Here CNN’s Dan Rivers details his remarkable personal story to CNN Wire news editor Ashley Broughton after returning home Friday from five days in Myanmar, reporting on the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. Hiding below a blanket in the back of a car at a police checkpoint. Hopping on boats instead of staying on a road. Constantly looking over your shoulder, knowing that at any

For the Russell Newberry Fans….
He’s outspoken, he’s experienced, he’s a life-long pal of the Hillstrands, he has a great sense of humor…He’s Russell Newberry and this is where he’ll be at this weekend! When Russell Newberry signed a contract with the producers of “The Deadliest Catch,” a reality show about crab fishing off the Alaska coast, he never read past the document’s first sentence. “It said the Discovery Channel had the right to film me clothed, half-clothed or naked,” Newberry said. “I didn’t have to re

Killing with Correctness
CNN's Dan Rivers has left cyclone-ravaged Myanmar after sneaking into the country without the knowledge of the nation's secretive ruling junta. The government hunted the journalist even as it seized food aid and kept out relief agencies. "They're turning a bad situation into ... what really is criminal negligence on a massive scale," Rivers says. Here CNN's Dan Rivers details his remarkable personal story to CNN Wire news editor Ashley Broughton after returning home Friday from five days in Mya

Ageless Wisdom
For the most part, on my blogs and websites, I pretty much keep my political views to myself. I don’t hesitate to give my opinion on certain subjects. For example, I think the war on terrorism had to be waged, but I think it’s time to bring our men and women home. And I’m every for hugging trees but not at the expense of human beings. I’m more interested in programs and institutions that better the lives of people than I am those that better the lives of plants. However, I personally don’t f

Along with the monuments to achievements, we should also go to sobering exhibits of humankind's failures
Most travelers have a vague desire to visit the world's most famous museums of art: the Louvre in Paris, the National Gallery in London, the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Prado in Madrid, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Uffizi in Florence, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the various elements of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. To these should now be added museums of conscience, places that commemorate acts of inhumanity, that

100 MORE Things About Me In Honor of my 200th Post
Since this is my 200th post (and an embarassingly delayed one at that) I have compiled 100 more things about me to bring the number of "things" up to 200 (you can look my first 100 "things" here and here.) Of course, it's really difficult to think of 200 things about yourself, so these certainly won't be as interesting as the last- but by the time you're through reading this, you'll know as much about myself as I do! 101. I have seen every single episode of Friends (multiple times) 102. I can o

The beach from "The Beach" - Ko Phi Phi, Thailand
Jump to the full entry & travel map Ko Phi Phi, Thailand When you arrive on Phi Phi Island, take a longtail boat out to Long Beach and check into Phi Phi Paradise Pearl Resort. For the budget travellers, you can receive a spiffy bamboo bungalow within steps of the beach. Long Beach is a silent (well, during the shoulder season) stretch of beautiful white sand. The water is clear and the snorkelling is great right off the beach. You are far enough away from town that you

More Than Just Business
Some photos from a business trip. As I type this, I’m sitting at Gate A6 at Burbank Airport. I just finished up a five-day business trip in Ventura, CA, where I worked with a new client. It was a very satisfactory week, primarily because the client picked up every of my expenses and they put me up in a very nice room on Ventura Harbor. Yes, it was a Holiday Inn Express. But it was also one of the nicest hotel rooms I’ve stayed in for a long time. My first floor room may have lacked a patio, but

Not your father's Oldsmobile: Gay collectors fawn over fabulous ...
I'm not surprised. Those long, lean, pimpin' machines of yore, those boats of the '70s have been derided long enough by those of us who remember when Disco played on the AM stations. Left unloved too long, their original owners long passed away, these gas-guzzling relics have finally found a new, and adoring audience: Gay car collectors. In this piece in the Los Angeles Times, a writer by the unlikely name of Cocoa Efficient relates to us why gay collectors have flocked to the luxury

Puddings 1
Unrelated: I updated info on my “about” page. I’ve already decided this is “1″ of several on this photogenic topic, thanks to a comment posted by John Dupee a few weeks ago, who provided the origin of the term as “puddening [Probably fr. pudden, for pudding, in allusion to its softness.] (Naut.) (a) A quantity of rope-yarn, or the like, placed, as a fender, on the bow of a boat. (b) A bunch of soft material to prevent chafing between spars, or the like.” from Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dict

Inflatable Boats for Fishing
Summer is just around the corner and I know most people who have experienced Winter are dying to go to the beach. Those who loves fishing I’m sure you can’t wait to go. But wait a minute you need some gears to go with your fishing. How about inflatable boats and life jackets. Honestly, though this is the first time I heard about inflatable boats. In fact I want to know more about it so that you know I will probably consider buying one. Who knows! You may visit Inflatable Boats dot com for mor

The disaster that is Myanmar
How can the news of more than 50,000 dead be any worse? Well, have a military government that is trying to stay in power. That’s how to make a bad situation worse. The government has taken UN aid (for itself). So, the UN is pulling out. If that isn’t bad enough, the US and other western countries have not been allowed in to help. Update: It looks like the UN is being allowed back into the country. This is madness. ——— From CNN: Hiding below a blanket in the back of a car at a poli
